As a stop gap process on the road to energy not requiring the burning of hydro-carbons it has a few merits. It is not the long term solution. On a major scale that is nuclear, while on a minor scale it will probably be hydrogen. Nuclear power units will no doubt come down in size. ships are not really a problem, and then probably railroad locomotives. Land transport can be covered by a large amount of electrification, while in the air it will be hydrogen.
