have to turn on the lights and heat an hour earlier, Can't believe that this would save.

How about splitting the difference - one-half hour, and never changing it?

This particular topic has been studied to death; this is the latest in a long line of studies, most of which have been inconclusive. As one versed in economics, I wonder about those $5.3 million of "other pollution costs."

If I remember my history correctly, DST was a gift to farmers in the 1930's to allow them longer daylight hours in the fields during the growing season. This predated residential air conditioning. So possibly the need for DST has run its course.

From a realistic standpoint, if any study can stop observance of DST, it'll have to be one big uniformly accepted "official" one. If it becomes a finger-pointing Repub/Dem thing, precisely nothing will happen.
