Transportation's contribution to global warming has been well articulated. It 's responsible for 33% of US emissions from fossil fuel combustion. Now, for the first time, the government is taking an in-depth look at the flip scenario: how global warming is affecting transportation.

I agree. We should get rid of things like the American dream, urbanize and build lots of good, electric mass transit (trains and light rail (trolleys)) as they do in Europe or Japan.

Hmmm ... another non-scientific, non-peer-reviewed report claiming catastrophe. Ho hum... I hope Spring gets here soon. I'm sick of this long, cold, bitter winter.

Funny, this story is from Popular Mechanics. As Aidenag would say: That story isn't peer-reviewed!

Hmmm... this report is being published by the National Academies, Transportation Research Board, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, U.S. Department of Transportation, Transit Cooperative Research Program, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

I'm sure you can't discredit all of those agencies.

        >>I hope Spring gets here soon. I'm sick of this long, cold, bitter winter

That's a laugh. Here, in the DC area, we had 75 degF in January, 60 degF in February, & now in the beginning of March, we have 50 & up. We, who have gone multiple weeks in the single digit temps, & months w/snow on the ground, have had 1 snow storm that lasted 1 day, & 2 ice storms that melted w/in 1-2 days.

So much for "long, cold, bitter."

Wow. You're ready to trash decades of research for 1 paper. Let me ask you a couple questions:

        1) Exactly what is the "limit" from the equation? If it's 0.5degC, that's one thing; if it's 10degC, we're screwed. The article only states that it "prevents it from warming the Earth more than a certain amount."

        2) What is the rate of this feedback? Is it faster than, slower than, or the same as the increase in temperature?

        3) Why is it so difficult for you to believe that humans burning fossil fuels ADDS TO, not creates, global warming? Yes, the Earth's been going through cycles, but never before have humans been involved. It's kind of like an object, like a bridge, that vibrates during normal operation w/no apparent problem. Then add an external force, lets say a wind, that happens to gust at the object's harmonic frequency. What happens? Can you say "Tacoma Narrows Bridge"?
