"In a memo written by his wife, Emma, in 1839, she expresses her concerns about Darwin's declining faith. "May not the habit in scientific pursuits of believing nothing till it is proved, influence your mind too much in other things which cannot be proved in the same way?" she wrote."

Great quote!
So many geniuses must have heard something very similar..
I wonder how many of us here are accused by our nearest and dearest of spending too much time on the computer?
Good night!
Ben Stein is spreading misinformation that Darwin's theories are responsible for the Holocaust.
WRONG!
Darwin said let NATURE decide who is the fittest. Who survives the flu or the harsh winter will continue the species.
EUGENICS demands MAN decides WHO IS INFERIOR, and ELIMINATE them. That's what Hitler did. Followed Eugenics doctrine to mass murder, NOT Darwin's theory at all.
I can't wait to see Ben Stein's "Intelligent Design" movie.
It looks terribly unfunny, even hateful.
Why is a Jew schilling for the Fundamentalist Christians?
"Darwin said let NATURE decide who is the fittest. Who survives the flu or the harsh winter will continue the species. "
Personally I think Ben Stein's a nut if he's blaming evolution for the Holocaust. However one could make the argument that humans, as a part of Nature, have naturally evolved into a state where they believe they can now decide, as a force of nature, who lives/dies. It's the ultimate reality of our competetive society -- wealth and power is always built on the backs of others and deaths of others.
Richard Dawkins went to a preview screening and didn't have much good to say. A fellow evolutionist friend he went with was refused entry to the movie. A bit ironic for a movie named 'Expelled'.
Dawkins' comments can be found on his web site under the title "Lying for Jesus". I'd post the link, but my cut-and-paste is on the fritz (thanks, Microsoft).

Darwin was such an interesting fellow.
You know, he dint publish his deductions and theories for years because they contradicted the prevailing religious beliefes of the day.
Plus, its been told that he felt uncomfortable with the notion that his intellectual understandings were kinda in opposition to his own Biblical beliefs.
It was only after a young admirer started sending him essays for review that contained the same conclusions that Darwin had arrived at that he decided to publish his book; 'The Origin of the Species'.
I guess the beauty of Truth is that it always reveals itself sooner or later.
Speaking of beauty of truth, here's beauty in truth. Yet not many people know this guy.

BTW, great find Neo.

His art is spectacular.
You show read the full writing of the book:
"On the origin of species by means of natural selection, or the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life."
"Plus, its been told that he felt uncomfortable with the notion that his intellectual understandings were kinda in opposition to his own Biblical beliefs. "
There's nothing in the Bible at odds with evolution. Nothing in Darwin's theory of evolution (or current science)at odds with the Bible, either.
I actually think the same thing. It's actually a tribute to God to admit that he created life so adaptable to changing conditions.
I'm glad to read it, since I've know some religious people (specially Christians and a few Muslims) who think otherwise.
I think that religious people have preconceptions about what the Bible says without actually reading it themselves. It says that Man is made in the image of God, but what exactly does that mean? My Dad always said that it meant that we couldn't be descended from other primates, but it seems like a less specific passage to me.
My brother used to think like that, but recently when we took my 5 year old daugther to a museum for her birthday I found out that he indeed was understanding and giving the benefit of the doubt to the theory of evolution. I just told him that it all depends on how literal you took the translation of the translation of the translation of some really old writings that probably where the copy of the copy of the copy of the original. Perhaps the main message is the same (I really am not suggesting otherwise) but you can't take every single word literaly .
Many of the terms and phrases used in the Bible are somewhat vague, probably because the intention is to make a point of broader significance. Much of the argument made by Creation Science advocates seems to be less than comprehensive and based more on attacking portions of the Theory of Evolution. For example, I have read attacks on the manner in which the fossilized examples of hominids were reconstructed. On the other hand, I haven't seen attacks on dinosaur reconstructions. Does that mean that paleontologists know how to reconstruct dinosaurs but not early humans?
