I think politicians need to spend less time bragging about their latest greenwashing schemes and more time studying The Law of Unintended Consequences. Because while growing fuel on cropland initially sounds like a great idea, any honest assessment leads you to the inescapable conclusion that biofuels are largely a government-sponsored scam

April 27, 2008, 8:27 a.m.The food to fuel program started with lobby efforts by the mega-farm corporations and the alcohol distillers. Add the half a buck tax on imports and the subsidity of half a buck, and you distort the market. The Greens pushed to force alcohol additive into gasoline creating its own problem. Let's see the results: My gasoline car gets less miles per gallon. My diesel car gets less miles per gallon. My food costs are going up every day.
