Hopefully this will encourage some younger people to get interested in science and astronomy, if it does then Microsoft has made a contribution to society. Kudos to them for offering it free of charge.....

        FTA:

"Microsoft expects the technology used in the WorldWide Telescope to help the company in future software applications, but the goal for this program is to spark the interest of children to want to learn more about space and possibly pursue careers in science and engineering."

We really need to boost the interest of our children in these fields if we are to remain competitive in this global economy.

I have always wanted one of the really powerful home telescopes, that can show you the rings of saturn and jupiter's moons, etc. Much too expensive; and anyway you have to go way out into the country to use it.

                          This should be better.
